Deep, crimson in colour with lovely richness and fullness of flavour. It has savoury notes, deep red fruit with strong, spicy, savoury and ripe tannins on the finish. Drink now or after 5-20 years. Great ageing potential. Another classic L.J.
Made from grapes grown in our vineyard planted in 1905. The shiraz and handful of grenache (< 5%) grapes were harvested by hand on 27th February 2018, yielding less than 1 tonne per hectare. After de-stemming, it was fermented in open wooden vats, hand-plunged then pressed. Malolactic fermentation and maturation in barrel then fined with egg white prior to bottling. The wine was matured for 18 months in oak barrels, 70% of which was new French oak. Alc. 13.8%, cellaring 5 to 15 years.
This wine marries perfectly with lamb, game and slow cooked beef dishes. A delight with hard cheeses.
