French country cooking in the heart of Rutherglen wine country.
The pitch here is simple: French country-style food made using local produce, designed to be paired with the estate’s own rich red and textured white wines. Set just off from the winery’s cellar door in the same rustic, corrugated iron shed, the dining room is an eclectic mix of antique chairs, tables and cutlery, with views across the vineyards. The menu changes frequently, but expect entrees such as twice-baked cauliflower souffle, lifted with lemon and goat’s cheese, or caramelised sweetbreads with Jerusalem artichoke, wood sorrel and a dash of tawny port. For main course, there might be chargrilled goat cutlets from nearby Kidden Park with a carrot terrine and sheep’s milk yoghurt, or a wild mulloway with grilled leek and mussels. Dessert is an opportunity to get stuck into the regions fortifieds – try the muscat with a baked chestnut cheesecake topped with prunes. It’ll be the perfect finish to a wonderful meal.
With 24 hours’ notice, the kitchen can prepare a picnic hamper for you. Call ahead to arrange.
